In the contest we are going to see how many minutes students parents spend that they could be Idling but aren&amp;#39;t. The person with the most minutes in the end will receive a Razor Scooter!!! Second and third places will receive a candy bar. &lt;b&gt;Remember this is for Olympus Jr. High students ONLY. &lt;/b&gt;If you happen to be a student at OJH you will receive a form to take home to your parents. Here is some information on what you can do to help the environment, and Make A New Beginning.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt; Idling&lt;br&gt;&lt;/b&gt; Some people idle there car to warm up the engine, some idle when waiting to pick up kids at school. But the truth is Idling isn&amp;#39;t just bad for the environment, it&amp;#39;s bad for your car and your health. Idling wastes thousands of gallons of Gasoline in just one minute. Think of how much gas could be saved if no one idled, and more gas means lower gas prices. Idling also causes pollution which can harm peoples health and can lead to global warming. Idling is a waste, why idle your car when it only harms you and the environment.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt; Coal Power&lt;br&gt; &lt;/b&gt;Coal is often burned for electricity, but when burned it releases many harmful pollutants into the air, such as carbon dioxide. In the state of Utah, where 95% of electricity comes from coal, just breathing the air outside for a day is equivalent to smoking 5 cigarettes. We need to find alternative energy sources such as wind power, solar power, and hydrogen power, none of which release pollution&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt; &lt;b&gt;Phantom Loading&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt; Phantom loading is not very well known. It is when everyday objects such as computers, TVs, and Microwaves use energy even when they&amp;#39;re turned off. This can cause lots of energy wasting, which can release pollution if it comes from coal or gas. So when any appliances are not in use turn them off and unplug them, so that they won&amp;#39;t waste energy.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt; &lt;b&gt;CFLs&lt;br&gt; &lt;/b&gt;CFLs, or Compact Florescent Light bulbs, light bulbs that use a lot less energy than normal light bulbs. They may cost more, but they last a lot longer so you won&amp;#39;t have to buy as many. In the end you save money. CFLs also are a lot brighter and shine a more natural looking light. Use CFLs to reduce energy consumption and your energy bill.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;Recycling&lt;br&gt;&lt;/b&gt;Reduce Reuse Recycle! You can do this to. Recycling reduces the amount of energy put into making more stuff. Recycling also reduces the amount of garbage put into landfills. Eventually our landfills will fill up. Then where will our trash go? If your state or city has a recycling program then you can just put recyclable materials into your blue recycling bin.
